The first two weeks, handled.
"Wear it, bin it, don't think about it."High-waisted disposable underwear, eight to a box. The waistband sits above a caesarean scar rather than across it, and the cut holds a maternity pad without letting it wander. On the days you have no interest in laundry, you just throw it away.

Ordinary underwear is the wrong shape for this
Bleeding after birth carries on for a few weeks, whether you delivered vaginally or by caesarean. It's heaviest in the first days and tapers from there. Most of the early weeks is quietly spent managing that, on very little sleep, while also feeding someone.
Normal underwear fails at it in two specific ways. A low-rise waistband sits directly across a fresh caesarean scar, which is sore and slows nothing down but your willingness to move. And a standard cut doesn't hold a maternity pad, so the pad slides at exactly the moment you least want it to, which is how people end up ruining the underwear they own, one pair at a time.
This is not a complicated product. It's a high waistband, a wide gusset and a stretch that goes on and off without bending. It's simply oddly hard to buy here, which is the only reason we're making it.
- High waist that clears a caesarean scar entirely
- Wide gusset that holds a maternity pad where you put it
- Soft and stretchy, so you're not bending to get into it
- Disposable, so the worst days don't become laundry
The details that decide whether you'd wear it twice
- Genuinely high, not "mid-rise": the band sits well above a standard caesarean incision. This is the single most common complaint about disposable underwear sold here, and it's the whole point of the cut.
- Breathable, not plastic: a soft non-woven fabric rather than the crinkly plastic-backed kind. Most of the year is warm here and you'll be wearing these all day.
- Enough stretch to pull on standing: you should not have to bend or balance on one leg in the first week after birth.
- Eight, not four: roughly a week's worth for the heaviest stretch, so one box actually covers the part that's hardest.

There isn't much to it
- Put a maternity pad into the gusset before you put the brief on. It's easier than doing it the other way round.
- Pull it up so the waistband sits above your scar or your bump line, not across it.
- Change the pad as often as you need to; change the brief once a day, or sooner on the heavy days.
- Bin it. Two boxes cover most people through the heaviest fortnight.
Packing for hospital? Put one box in the bag and leave the second at home. You'll want them from the first day.
This makes a fortnight easier. It doesn't treat anything.
Underwear is underwear. It doesn't help you heal, it doesn't reduce bleeding, and it isn't a medical product. The healing is your body's and the watching is your midwife's or doctor's.
Please call someone if you're soaking a pad in under an hour, passing clots bigger than a plum, running a fever, feeling faint, or if your caesarean scar is hot, swollen or leaking. And if the sadness isn't lifting after a couple of weeks, or you feel frightened of how you're feeling, say so to your doctor or health visitor. That's as real as the bleeding, and as treatable.
On the disposable part: these are single-use, which means they create waste. We'd rather say that plainly than dress it up. They're designed for the first weeks, the stretch where washing underwear is genuinely more than most people can manage. They aren't something to keep buying afterwards. Two boxes is what most people need.
